The Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA) is excited to announce the successful acquisition of $22 million in funding for key infrastructure projects at Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN).

“Receiving this funding is a significant milestone for JAN,” stated CEO Rosa M. Beckett. “It underscores our commitment to enhancing safety, efficiency, and compliance with FAA standards. These infrastructure improvements will benefit our passengers and airline partners and help JAN remain the leading airport in the region and the state.”

The funds were obtained through a collaborative effort with federal and state partners and utilizing JMAA Passenger Facility Charges (PFCs). The funding sources include the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP), the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Program (BIL), the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT), the Airport PFC program, and matching JMAA funding.

The $22 million allocation will be utilized to complete significant projects at JAN. These projects entail the rehabilitation/construction of Taxiway Alpha and Taxiway Bravo, accompanied by ancillary work in multiple runway areas, including the widening of runway shoulders and upgrades to critical lighting systems. These essential improvements will enhance airport operations at the busiest airport in Mississippi.

In 2023, JAN is projected to serve 1.31 million passengers and handle 22 million pounds of air cargo. The projects aim to bolster the infrastructural stability, efficiency, and safety of taxi and ground movement operations, which are essential aspects of modern airport functionality within the guidelines established by the FAA.

The rehabilitation of runway pavement is expected to have a useful life of twenty (20) years, a testament to the durability and quality of the planned construction. This investment will ensure safe and efficient operations for years to come.

Work on these crucial projects is scheduled to commence in November 2023 and is anticipated to conclude by May 2025. JMAA and its partners are committed to minimizing disruptions to airport operations throughout the construction phase, ensuring that travelers continue to experience a seamless and enjoyable journey.

JMAA expresses its gratitude to the federal and state partners and the support of the local community for their contribution to securing the funding necessary for these infrastructure projects. The authority remains committed to serving its passengers and airline partners while maintaining the highest safety standards, efficiency, and customer experience.
