The Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA) reports passenger numbers for calendar year 2023 at levels not seen in a decade and a half. As of December 31, Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN) handled nearly 1.29 million travelers, an increase of 5.1% above 2022. JAN continues to be, by far, the #1 airport in the state of Mississippi, carrying close to six (6) of every ten (10) passengers boarding at the seven (7) commercial airports.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rosa M. Beckett stated, “The JMAA team is extremely proud of this 2023 performance and will continue to work closely with our airline partners to offer enhanced flight options and additional seats as travelers continue their return to the skies. With flights to most major global hubs, we in Jackson and central Mississippi are just one (1) stop away from six (6) continents.”
CEO Beckett continued, “The leadership and staff are laser-focused on our modernization program to improve the customer experience of Jacksonians and the central Mississippi flying public. We are also very fortunate to have a highly acclaimed Board of Commissioners to support the vision of a “next generation airport” at Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International (JAN).”
As a result of significant incremental air service since COVID-19, passenger volumes are at or above the strong pre-pandemic levels of 2019 as Mississippians have returned to the skies in great numbers. The 2023 results represent a 22.3% increase over 2019, and the outlook for calendar year 2024 is for an additional 3% in passengers above this past year.
Our world-class global airline partners, American, Delta, United, and Southwest, continue to provide outstanding customer service and convenient flights to get you on your way to friends, family, and those all-important business trips easily. JMAA greatly appreciates its Federal partners at FAA and TSA for helping keep all customers at JAN safe and moving efficiently to and from their flights.
As a reminder, winter weather may add challenges to the air travel experience, so please check www.iflyjackson.com or your specific air carrier for updates before your trip to JAN.
Happy 2024 from the Jackson Municipal Airport Authority: Your Connection to the World!
